LANE COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

The body of a missing Marion County teen was found by hikers near a lake in Lane County.

Trevor Mitchell, an 18-year-old high school student from Sublimity, was reported missing by his family Sunday.

The case remains under investigation, but deputies said it appears Mitchell died of an apparent suicide.

His car was found at the Separation Lake trailhead near the Three Sisters Wilderness Area on Tuesday. An extensive search operation was conducted in the days that followed and the public was asked to help find him.

The Lane County Sheriff's Office reported that hikers located Mitchell's body Thursday night near Separation Lake.

Mitchell was a senior at South Salem High School.

"The Lane County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Trevor’s family and friends, community members, and volunteers who assisted in the search efforts. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Trevor," according to a statement from the Lane County Sheriff's Office.

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available 24 hours a day at 1-800-273-8255.
