LINCOLN, NE (KPTV) -

Before the Oregon Ducks even took the field in Lincoln they made some new fans in Nebraska by honoring a fallen Husker.

Coach Mark Helfrich and kicker Matt Wogan placed flowers at the 27-yard line of Tom Osborne field as a memorial for punter Sam Foltz, who wore number 27 for Nebraska.

Foltz died in a car wreck, along with former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler, while returning from a kicking camp in Wisconsin this summer.

The gesture was quickly applauded by fans and the Nebraska team, which is coached by former Oregon State Beavers head coach Mike Riley.

In Nebraska’s first game of the season, during the team’s first punt, the Huskers lined up with only 10 players on the field in a salute to Foltz.
