Three countries. Thousands of applicants. Only two Directors of Toughness.
Columbia Sportswear launched a new search for the job of your dreams. Two lucky people will spend the next nine months traveling around the world testing gear. But this time, the company is stepping it up with the interview process, making it the toughest interview ‘to get to.’
“The perfect candidate is someone who is physically strong, but we want someone who is mentally tough as well. They’re going to be traveling a lot and thrown into situations at a drop of a hat. It’s going to take a person who will do that and still be willing to share their stories,” said Public Relations Manager Andy Nordhoff.
Columbia began it’s first of four searches at Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood. Twenty-one of nearly 1,000 applicants came to prove they were tough enough. After a 10 minute formal interview, candidates were told they had a surprise challenge. They had to climb 2,000 ft. up Timberline Trail for part two.
Outdoor enthusiasts made the trip from as far away as Austin, TX and Boulder, CO hoping to be the next Directors of Toughness. MORE followed Krista Koehn of Bend, OR through the interview process and her trek up Mt. Hood.
Columbia will soon open registrations for its East Coast search, followed by Canada and the UK.
The winners will be announced later this fall. For information on when you can apply, keep an eye on the Columbia Sportswear Instagram page www.columbia.com/toughjobs.
