SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A murder suspect sought in connection with the death of a 20-year-old woman in Salem was caught near the Canadian border.

Police said Cristian Acosta, 22, was found and detained near the border overnight, adding that his vehicle was also located.

He was in custody at the Whatcom County Jail in Bellingham, Washington on Tuesday night. He has been charged with aggravated murder with a firearm and is awaiting extradition back to Salem.

Police first responded to a call about a disturbance at a residence in Salem around 1:45 p.m Monday.

When officers arrived at the home in the 2500 block of Hyde Court Southeast, they found 20-year-old Lucia Pamatz dead at the scene.

Police said an investigation revealed that multiple gunshots were fired in the home.

Detectives said the shooting is related to a domestic relationship between the victim and the suspect.

No other details were immediately released about the investigation.
