ALOHA, OR (KPTV) -

Some local high school students had a special visitor in their class on Monday.

Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici stopped by an automotive technology class at Aloha High School. She was there to talk with students about the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education (CTE) Act that just passed the House last week.

The CTE Act would increase federal support for programs that prepare students for high demand careers.

"These are skills that help students, whether they go into auto repair or any path they take in life. They're learning to work together, it's hands on learning that is engaging. And they're also learning the responsibility and skills and communication that will help them no matter where they end up in life," said Congresswoman Bonamici.

The CTE Act will now head to the Senate for a vote.
