A car crashed into a power pole just before midnight in southwest Portland, blocking traffic, disrupting TriMet services and cutting off power for area residents.

Portland Police Bureau and Portland Fire and Rescue responded shortly after 12 a.m. Thursday to the intersection of Southwest Capitol Highway and Southwest Terwilliger Boulevard where a driver struck a power pole and went down an embankment.

City crews are working to clear the area, but the intersection was expected to remain closed through the evening rush hour. However, crews had it open again by 4 p.m.

TriMet officials tell FOX 12 that nine bus routes will be affected by the road closure and detoured to Barbur Boulevard.

According to Portland General Electric, around 407 customers lost power. Crews originally expected to have services restored by 10 a.m. but later said it would be between noon and 1 p.m.

A rope team was called in to rescue the two people injured in the crash. Police said they were taken to the hospital for treatment. There is no word on their current condition or what led to the incident.
