PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A Bengal cat stolen from a Portland neighborhood was tracked down by police in Brush Prairie.

Falke the cat was reported stolen from in front of his home on the 7500 block of Southwest 49th Avenue at 12:15 p.m. Oct. 21.

A witness told police she saw a passenger get out of a blue tow truck and grab the cat. The witness took a photo of the truck as it drove away and posted it on social media.

Police said that photo was helpful in their investigation.

A tip from the public led investigators to a location in Brush Prairie on Wednesday, where a detective spoke to people with knowledge of the cat's location.

According to police, "some phone calls were made and the cat was returned in good health to the detective."

Late Wednesday night, Portland Police Bureau Detective Travis Fields, assisted by the Clark County Sheriff's Office, retrieved Falke.

Falke was returned to his rightful owner, who was thrilled to have the cat back.

"Falke preferred to ride on the dashboard of the detective's car rather than in a cardboard box," police said.

No further details were released about the investigation, but police said no arrests were made and none are anticipated in this case.

The Portland Police Bureau jokingly referred to Fields as a "pet detective."

"The Portland Police Bureau does not really have a full-time 'pet detective' but we do investigate reports of animal theft from time to time," according to a statement from police.
