MALHEUR COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A 10-year-old girl died after being thrown from an SUV in a crash on Highway 78 in Malheur County.

Emergency crews responded to Milepost 72, 55 miles west of Jordan Valley, at 7:55 a.m. Wednesday.

Investigators said Lemanuel Perez-Morales, 28, was driving a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer west on the highway when he drifted off the roadway and rolled the SUV.

Perez-Morales and a 6-year-old boy in the SUV were flown to a hospital in Idaho. Another passenger, Zulmarie Adorno-Ortiz, 27, was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

A 10-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said seat belt usage may have been a contributing factor.

The people in the SUV were from University Place, Washington.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. The highway was partially closed for several hours after the crash.
