Police: 6 arrested during "Million Mask March" protest

Posted: Updated:

Portland Police arrested six protesters during the Million Mask March in downtown Portland Saturday.

Police say the protest disrupted drivers, and people using public transportation.

The demonstration started on Southwest 3rd Avenue between Madison Street and Main Street before the group marched through downtown.

A group of protesters blocked northbound traffic on I-5, causing long delays on the freeway.

Officers arrested six people, whose ages range from 25 to 51.

The Million Mask March is an anonymous movement that happens every November 5, and dates back to the 1600s.

Police say free speech events do not need a permit, but demonstrations on public streets that restrict movement of other community members do.

They said this group did not have a permit, and more arrests are possible.
