PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Blazers guard C.J. McCollum is known for his hard work and clutch scoring, but Monday he made a name for himself with the opening of a new education center for kids.

McCollum opened the C.J. McCollum Dream Center at the Blazer's Boys & Girls Club with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday afternoon.

The facility includes a learning room stocked with computers, books and other tools to maximize education for kids.

To make the center a reality, McCollum spent the summer meeting with kids at the Blazers club in northeast Portland.

He listened to their dreams and asked about what kind of space would help them most achieve. Now their vision has been brought to life thanks to McCollum's support.

The Blazers guard said this is only the beginning of his vision for youth education.

"I wanted the kids to see the world and the bigger picture, to understand that there's a lot more out there than just Oregon,” he said. “You know growing up in northeast Ohio, I never knew what was in the Pacific Northwest. I had never been to Texas, I had never been to California. I wasn't able to see a lot of that stuff early on. So being able to put that out there for them to see there are a lot of careers and opportunities at their disposal."

McCollum and the Boys and Girls Club of Portland are planning to build more Dream Center locations throughout Oregon in hopes of providing more safe spaces for underserved kids to learn.
