TUALATIN, OR (KPTV) -

A Gresham man sped away from police in Sherwood and hit two patrol cars in Tualatin before he was arrested Tuesday morning, according to investigators.

A Tualatin officer saw a 1996 Ford Ranger speeding and driving erratically eastbound on Southwest Tualatin-Sherwood Road.

The officer said the driver of the pickup drove into the wrong lane, forcing the officer to swerve to avoid being hit.

The truck matched the description of one that Sherwood police had attempted to stop just minutes earlier in the same area.

The Tualatin Police Department sergeant turned on his emergency lights and attempted to stop the driver, but the suspect kept going.

The officer, with the assistance of a Tigard Police Department K-9 team, pursued the driver throughout Tualatin.

The suspect hit the Tigard patrol vehicle while trying to turn left from Southwest 65th Avenue onto Southwest Prosperity Park Road, according to police, causing the patrol vehicle and the truck to end up partially in the ditch.

Police said the suspect was able to drive out of the ditch and rammed the front of the Tualatin patrol vehicle.

At that point, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody.

Nathan Apilada, 37, of Gresham, was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail on charges of felony attempt to elude, attempting to assault a police officer and first-degree criminal mischief.

There were no injuries in connection with this incident. Both patrol vehicles sustained minor damage.
