PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Almost a month after releasing a suspect sketch, police have arrested a man accused of grabbing an 11-year-old girl from behind in north Portland.

The investigation began the evening of Sept. 30.

A girl told police she was walking in the area of North Houghton Street and Courtney Avenue at 6:30 p.m. when she realized a man was following her. The girl began walking faster, but the suspect sped up to her, grabbed her buttocks and then walked away, according to investigators.

Officers checked the neighborhood when they received the report 45 minutes after the incident, but did not locate anyone matching the suspect's description.

The girl met with a forensic sketch artist and a composite sketch of the suspect was released last month.

On Sunday, detectives received information that the suspect was 39-year-old David Karl Nilsson. Police said Nilsson turned himself in Monday.

He was interviewed by detectives with the Child Abuse Team and arrested on the charge of first-degree sex abuse.

Police are asking anyone in the area of this incident with surveillance cameras to check recordings for possible images of the suspect.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to email CrimeTips@PortlandOregon.gov.
