PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A Multnomah County Sheriff's Office deputy drove by the Multnomah County Elections Division in a county vehicle and used a loud speaker to announce pro-Trump messages to people waiting in line to vote, the sheriff's office confirmed.

Tuesday's incident in southeast Portland is now under official investigation, according to a spokesman for the sheriff's office.

The employee has not been identified.

The vehicle was a Multnomah County truck that would normally be used to transport inmates to a work crew job sites.

The sheriff's office spokesman said it is OK for deputies as private citizens to campaign for a candidate, but not from a marked sheriff's office vehicle.

A witness told the Portland Mercury that there were 50 to 60 people in line at the time. Another witness told the Oregonian that people in line were offered a comment card to report the incident.
