KEIZER, OR (KPTV) -

Three people are facing charges after police responded to a cannon being fired in a Keizer neighborhood to celebrate the election of Donald Trump.

Police and firefighters responded to 7th Avenue Northeast and Kestrel Street Northeast at 8:47 p.m. Wednesday on reports of an explosion.

A witness reported seeing a large plume of smoke after hearing the blast.

Officers arrived within two minutes and spotted the smoke still lingering in the air behind a home on the 5100 block of 7th Avenue Northeast.

Police contacted a woman in the driveway, but were then confronted by her boyfriend.

Investigators said 21-year-old Triston Paul Poteet grabbed an officer and refused to comply with commands. He was taken into custody on charges of harassment and interfering with a police officer.

His girlfriend, 20-year-old Velda Housley, was cited and released on the charge of interfering with a police officer.

Further investigation led officers to determine the explosion was caused by 45-year-old Michael Allen Dingle.

Dingle told officers he ignited a cannon in his backyard to celebrate Donald Trump's presidential election victory.

Police said Dingle told them no projectiles were shot from the cannon and that he hid the cannon in his garage before officers and firefighters arrived at his home.

Dingle received the cannon from his father several years ago and he feared officers would seize it if it was found.

Officers received consent to enter the garage to view and photograph the cannon.

Dingle was cited and released on one count of second-degree disorderly conduct.

Poteet was booked into the Marion County Jail.
