HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

Hillsboro police are investigating allegations that an employee at an at-risk youth facility had sex with an underage boy.

Safe Place for Youth is a shelter for homeless youth and runaways in Hillsboro, where children are supposed to be protected. However, on October 30, police say a 30-year-old female employee allegedly gave a 17-year-old boy alcohol and had sex with him.

The boy’s mother, who only wants to be known as Lisa, told FOX 12 that she is furious.

“The fact that we had a predator who was able to gain access to an area of this facility that was not monitored so that she could have this, take advantage of my son in that way, is inexcusable,” she said.

Suzan Huntington is the president of Boys and Girls Aid of Oregon, a non-profit that operates the shelter.

She said the employee passed a background check, had extensive training and started working the graveyard shift about six months ago.

When officials at the facility heard about the allegations, Huntington said they reviewed surveillance video from inside the facility and it was clear what happened.

The woman was fired the next day.

“(This is) gut-wrenching, devastating. Our goal is to get kids moving and move them forward not set them back,” Huntington said. “We had lots of opportunities to watch her interact with our clients and never at any point was there a red flag.”

Lisa claims the woman invited her son to her house and now wonders how many other boys have been there too.

Mostly, though, she’s worried about this haunting her son for years to come.

“If this happened so easily to my son, how do we know there are not other victims?” She said. “When he really gets to a point where he wraps his brain around what happened here and how he was taken advantage of, and how this person used him and groomed him.”

The alleged victim’s mother told FOX 12 that a grand jury is reviewing the case, but prosecutors would not confirm that yet.
