MILWAUKIE, OR (KPTV) -

A boil water notice has been lifted for city of Milwaukie water customers.

The notice was issued at 4:50 p.m. Thursday after samples tested positive for E. coli and total coliform bacteria.

The samples were taken at the start of Milwaukie's connection to Portland's water supply as a way to maintain pressure in Milwaukie's system during repairs to the elevated tank at Southeast 40th Avenue and Harvey Street.

The boil water notice did not affect Portland water customers.

By 11:45 a.m. Friday, the notice had been lifted in Milwaukie.

City workers said water pressure in the affected area had been restored and new water sample tests showed there was no contamination to the water supply.

"To be extra safe, the City will collect daily water samples during repair work to test for E.coli, coliform, PH, chlorine residual, and turbidity," according to a city statement.
