PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A furniture store in the Pearl District was one of many local businesses cleaning up after Thursday night’s riot downtown.

The storefront window of Bella Casa was boarded up after protesters shattered it as the crowds rolled through the streets.

Owner Richard Codanti was actually at the store when the protesters were moving through.

He said that moments before someone shattered the window on their way through the Pearl District, he had told his employees to turn the lights down in hopes the crowd would ignore the store.

That move was too late, though, and now Codanti said he’s left frustrated with the damage and scared it might happen again.

“Someone had busted the window and glass just fell at my feet. We were like, ‘Oh my God what is going on?’ We started yelling at them, ‘Don’t do that, stop! Why are you protesting this way?’” he said. “You can tell there was a mix of people in the group that were part of it. But at that time the majority of it was the riot just to riot and be destructive.

An employee at the store told FOX 12 they received a call from someone warning them to not repair the damage or it will just happen again.

For now, the business is working with police and figuring out a game plan to prevent further damage.
