PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Businesses along Northwest 23rd are still recovering weeks after the natural gas explosion, and a local girl wants to lend a helping hand.

Kristy Brumley, 13, from Independence, spent her day off from school on Friday touring the area.

Brumley said the explosion really got her attention after learning the owner of Portland Bagelworks is from Independence. She is planning ways to help him and other businesses in the area.

"I care a lot, that is why I doing this. I really care and I feel like, I am very proud of all the firefighters that did risk their lives," said Brumley.

The owner of Portland Bagelworks says the amount of support people are offering him has been amazing. He said they have a benefit concert coming up at the Red Lion Hotel at Jantzen Beach later this month.
