Police: Man carjacks driver at gunpoint in downtown Portland

Portland police say a man carjacked a driver at gunpoint near the Fred Meyer on West Burnside Friday night.

Police responded to a report of a carjacking in the parking lot of the Taco Bell, located at 2079 West Burnside Street. When officers arrived in the area, they learned the suspect, armed with a handgun, tried to steal the victim's car while she sat in the parking lot.

The suspect left the area on foot and the victim was not injured.

Police said they responded to another carjacking at 7: 44 p.m. in the 1400 block of Northwest 28th Avenue. The victim told police they were carjacked at gunpoint by a man at the Stadium Fred Meyer.

The victim's vehicle was stolen by the suspect, who remains at large. The vehicle is a blue 2006 Subaru Legacy, Oregon license plate 478HKF.

Police said the suspect is described as an Asian or Hispanic man in his 30s, 5 feet 6 inches tall, medium build, clean shaven, wearing dark colored bulky clothing, carrying a backpack or bag, armed with a handgun.

Anyone with information about the carjacking is asked to call Portland police.
