Portland police investigating shooting on Morrison Bridge after night of protests

Portland police are investigating a shooting on the Morrison Bridge after spending much of the night clashing with protesters downtown.

Emergency crews responded to the bridge just before 1 a.m. Saturday.

Police reported that one person was injured in the shooting.

The shooting followed the last lingering group of protesters moving to the Morrison Bridge around 12:45 a.m.

Police responded quickly to the scene, arriving in force to the bridge. Officers and emergency responders provided medical aid to the victim, who was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A witness told FOX 12 that he was among the protesters walking on the bridge when a driver confronted the protesters before driving away, then getting out of his vehicle and threatening protesters before firing a gun.

Portland police have sent out a suspect description of the shooter, who they describe as a black male in his late teens, 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build. They say he was wearing a black hoodie and saggy blue jeans.

Later Saturday, police said the suspect vehicle had been located and four people were taken into custody

The shooting seems to have ended the last of the protests, with leaders telling those still left to go home.
