PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police arrested 17 people on the fourth night of protesting in Portland.

Nine of the suspects were booked into Multnomah County Jail on various charges in connection with Friday's protest. Six people were given citations and released and two juveniles were released to their parents.

Friday's arrests followed the arrests of 25 people for Thursday night's protest.

The evening began peacefully, with nearly 3,000 people attending a rally at City Hall.

However, after listening to people speak for a few hours, protesters began moving into the street.

Officers told the group that they could march, but only if they followed a specified path.

Protesters split into different groups and went different directions. By 9 p.m., police said projectiles and burning items were being thrown at officers.

Police in riot gear moved in and flash bangs and tear gas were used to try and subdue the crowd.

The protest continued past midnight. At around 1 a.m., police said a shooting occurred on the Morrison Bridge involving a driver and a protester.

Witnesses said the suspect got out of his car and fired multiple shots, injuring one protester.

The protester was taken to the hospital and was expected to survive. The shooter left the area, but police said the car was later stopped and four people were taken into custody.
