PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Two people were arrested and a gun was seized from a car after a protester was shot on the Morrison Bridge, according to police.

The shooting occurred at around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Police said a suspect got out of a car on the bridge and fired multiple shots, hitting one protester. Investigators don't believe the victim had any gang involvement and they don't believe the shooter was angry about the protest.

Instead, a Portland Police Bureau spokesman said it appears the suspects, "may have been out looking for trouble."

The protester was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, according to police.

The shooter left the area in a car with several other people.

Police said an off-duty officer spotted the suspect vehicle in the area of Northeast 102nd Avenue and Sandy Boulevard early Saturday morning.

Officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop and took four people into custody. Two of them were arrested on charges of attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon, according to police.

The suspects were identified as Steffon Marquise Corothers and Shamar Xavier Hunter, both 18 years old. On Monday, police said Corothers was being released and a 14-year-old boy had been arrested

Police said a "TEC-9" firearm was found inside the car. A photo of the gun was released Saturday by investigators.

Detectives believe the suspects are criminal gang associates.

Gang Enforcement Team detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the shooting and want to hear from any eyewitnesses that have not already spoke with police.

Witnesses are asked to contact Detective Brent Christensen at 503-823-2087, brent.christensen@portlandoregon.gov.

Police arrested 17 people in connection with Friday's protest.
