COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE, OR (KPTV) -

Remains found in the Columbia River Gorge on Friday have been determined to be missing 21-year-old hiker Annie Schmidt, according to her family.

Schmidt's family posted on Facebook that they were notified by the medical examiner Saturday. The cause of death was determined to be accidental, her family said.

"You have lived this trial with us and we pray that this may bring a greater level of resolution and peace for all of us," the family wrote.

Schmidt was reported missing on Oct. 19. She had last been seen by her roommate on Oct. 16.

Schmidt's vehicle was found on Oct. 20 near Bonneville Dam. Search crews scoured the area looking for her.

Investigators said from the start of their search that there were no signs of foul play.

The remains were found off of a trail near the Tooth Rock Trailhead at 11 a.m. Friday.

The search received nationwide attention, as Schmidt's father is a musician in the group The Piano Guys. The group posted updates about the search for Schmidt on their website.
