PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Hundreds of Portland students walked out of class Monday, filled Pioneer Courthouse Square and marched through the city in protest of President-elect Donald Trump.

The walkout occurred Monday morning with several hundred students making their way downtown.

Many carried signs opposing Trump, while others had signs in support of Hillary Clinton.

By 11 a.m., some students were marching in the middle of the street. The group made its way to City Hall and marchers then crossed the Hawthorne Bridge, blocking traffic, and continued marching through the east side of Portland.

By 12:45, students were rushing into Lloyd Center. They then headed toward the Moda Center.

The marchers ranged in age from sixth-graders to college students. A Portland Public Schools spokesperson said the schools that had student walkouts Monday were Beaumont, Irvington, Metropolitan Learning Center, Tabor, Sunnyside, Hosford, Cleveland, Wilson, Benton and Franklin.

Police were following the march and monitoring the situation.

"We are managing the movement of students that walked out of school in protest. No violence, no property damage and we are encouraging students to go back to school and parents to get their students back to school," according to a statement from the Portland Police Bureau.

By 2 p.m., police were using social media to encourage parents to get their children back to school. Students continued marching in north Portland and police said some were talking about walking onto freeways.

By 3:15 p.m., police said the rally and march had come to an end.

The rally follows six consecutive nights of protests in the streets of Portland that has resulted in vandalism, clashes with police and the arrests of more than 100 people.

FOX 12 has a crew at the scene and will continue to update this story.
