A McMinnville man armed with a handgun kidnapped his child, led police on a low-speed chase and was ultimately hit with a Taser and arrested, according to police.

Officers responded to the 200 block of Northwest 11st Street at 1 a.m. Saturday on a report that a man was menacing people with a handgun.

The suspect was identified as 36-year-old Rene Paul Delgado of McMinnville.

Police said Delgado took his underage child without consent or legal authority from the location.

Officers located Delgado at his home in McMinnville as he was leaving in his vehicle. They attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but police said Delgado refused to pull over and led officers on a low-speed chase.

The chase went through the northern part of the city until Delgado came to a stop near the intersection of Northwest 10th Street and Birch Street.

Police said Delgado still refused to comply with commands from officers and a Taser was used on him. Delgado was then arrested on charges of menacing, pointing a firearm at another, reckless endangering, burglary, kidnapping, attempt to elude and unlawful use of a weapon.

The child was returned to family members. There were no reports of injuries.
