PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A new homeless shelter focused on women and couples will open in the Sellwood neighborhood next week.

The Willamette Center, located on Southeast Milwaukie, will be the only homeless shelter in the neighborhood and will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The center operates on reservations and will hold 120 homeless women and couples.

"We're really excited about this new place and we're really glad they're helping more people now," said Julianne Hart.

"I think, TPI has something going here and it's going to get bigger, and the community is going to come in and see it. I'm behind them 100 percent," said Dominick Hart.

The shelter was made by Transition Projects. They're a Portland non-profit that operates other shelters around the metro-area.
