DALLAS, OR (KPTV) -

A driver was killed when a pickup crossed the centerline of Highway 223 and hit a car head-on early Wednesday morning.

Investigators said a 1999 Toyota Tacoma was heading south on the highway near Dallas at 3:15 a.m. when the driver crossed into the wrong lane and hit a 2000 Toyota Corolla.

The Corolla left the roadway and rolled down an embankment. The driver of the car, 39-year-old Louis A. Hildago of Dallas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Tacoma, 34-year-old Tad T. Young of Silverton, received minor injuries and refused medical transport to the hospital, according to police.

Young is cooperating with the investigation. Police said fatigue is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.

A 2006 Kenworth semi pulling a loaded log trailer was following the Corolla and swerved to avoid the collision. The truck left the roadway and came to a stop in the ditch.

The 65-year-old driver of the semi was not injured.

Highway 223 was closed in the area for about seven hours with a detour in place while the crash was being investigated.
