HAPPY VALLEY, OR (KPTV) -

A Clackamas County deputy who was shot in the leg during a chaotic scene on Sunnyside Road on Tuesday morning has been released from the hospital.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said Deputy Robert Cordova is currently on administrative leave and resting at home.

Cordova, who is contracted to the Happy Valley Police Department, responded to reports of a person who had been hit by a car near Southeast 139th Avenue and Sunnyside Road at 6:21 a.m. Tuesday.

When he arrived, investigators said there was a struggle with the person who had been hit, identified as 40-year-old Steven W. Wilson of Portland.

Cordova was then shot in the leg.

One person was in the patrol car for a ride-along as the situation unfolded and deputies said that person, along with another person, assisted Cordova at the scene.

Wilson, who was taken to the hospital Tuesday, was identified by detectives as a suspect in the shooting. Updates on his condition and possible criminal charges were not released Wednesday.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting and have interviewed Wilson, Cordova, the people who helped Cordova and other witnesses.

Detectives are also seeking tips from the public. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call 503-723-4949 or go to web3.clackamas.us/contact/tip and reference case #16-31438.

Cordova started working as a Clackamas County Sheriff's Office patrol deputy in July 2015.

Wilson has an arrest record dating back to 1997. He was most recently convicted of second-degree theft in August.
