Happy Valley Police, Clackamas Fire go head-to-head in Thanksgiving speed shopping challenge

HAPPY VALLEY, OR (KPTV) -

Who doesn’t like a little friendly competition during the holidays? For the Happy Valley Police Department and Clackamas Fire, it’s all in the spirit of giving.

Both agencies participated in a Thanksgiving speed shopping spree at the Happy Valley Fred Meyer at 6 a.m. Thursday morning.

Three Happy Valley police officers challenged three Clackamas firefighters in a “police versus fire” race. The goal was to fill their grocery carts full of Thanksgiving dinner items.

Each team only had five minutes to stuff their carts with food and goodies like turkey, pumpkin pie, green beans, mashed potatoes and much more.

The Happy Valley Fred Meyer volunteered to donate all food items used in the challenge.

The contents of each shopping cart will be put up for auction on The City of Happy Valley’s Facebook page. The team whose cart brings in the highest bid wins the challenge.

Police officers and firefighters will deliver each cart of food to bidders before Thanksgiving.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to Operation Santa, Clackamas Fire’s holiday food and toy drive.
