PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

People snatched up Oregon State Parks camping sites in record time for Aug. 21, 2017.

That's because a total solar eclipse will take place that morning.

The eclipse begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m.

The 60-mile path of totality, when the moon completely blocks the sun, will last for about two minutes starting at 10:15 a.m. on the Oregon coast between Newport and Lincoln City, according to Oregon State Parks.

Oregon State Parks camping sites for Aug. 21, 2017 were available for reservation starting at 12:01 a.m. Thursday.

Sites along the eclipse path were all gone within an hour.

Some state parks just outside the path of totality still had camping sites available Thursday afternoon, but they were expected to be filled at some point, as well.
