NEWPORT, OR (KPTV) -

An 18-year-old from Canby drove to Newport with two friends to steal back a car he sold because he was dissatisfied with the vehicles he received in trade, according to police.

Newport police received a report at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday that a 2002 Jeep Cherokee had just been stolen from a home on the 600 block of Southwest 9th Street.

An officer located the Jeep near Agate Beach and conducted a traffic stop on Highway 101 at Milepost 138.

The driver of the Jeep, 18-year-old Matthew Dylan Knight of Canby, told police that he had conducted a private party sale of the Jeep with a buyer in Newport in early October. The transaction included two additional vehicles coming back to Knight.

Knight said he was not satisfied with the condition of the traded vehicles and wanted the Jeep back.

According to police, Knight, along with two others who were driving behind him in a separate vehicle, devised a plan to travel from the Portland metro area to Newport to steal the Jeep.

Knight was arrested and booked into the Lincoln County Jail on charges of unlawful entry to a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and first-degree theft.

The other two suspects, 22-year-old Brody James Bjork of Gresham and 23-year-old Jacob Allen Stanford Cutts of Damascus, were also arrested on criminal conspiracy charges.

Bail for each suspect was set at $115,000.

The Newport Police Department was assisted by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and Oregon State Police in this case.
