PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland Fire and Rescue responded to a basement fire early Saturday morning.

Crews responded to the call of smoke in the area of Northeast 52nd and Hancock at around 1:30 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found a woman and her child outside of the building.

After crews saw a glow coming from the basement, they called for additional units.

As firefighters entered the building, they found a woman lying on the floor. She was taken to a local hospital.

The building was a home that was converted into six separate units, making the search for anyone inside more difficult.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
