Teen arrested after allegedly threatening students, staff at Heritage High School

Posted: Updated:

Clark County deputies arrested a 17-year-old boy who's accused of threatening students and staff members at Heritage High School in Vancouver.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested the teen on Sunday after they received multiple reports about a threat against the school.

According to court documents, the teen threatened via text message to "shoot up" the school.

The suspect was in juvenile court Monday morning facing charges of felony harassment and intimidating a school employee or student, and he remains in Clark County juvenile custody, since he may "pose a continuing threat," according to court documents, and is scheduled to be back in court Wednesday.

Authorities have not identified the teen, but deputies said he had been a student in the Evergreen School District in the past.

Some students and parents criticized the district for not notifying them about the threat earlier, but just before noon Monday school officials said they are sending a letter from the principal to parents thanking them for reporting the threat, thanking the sheriff's office for a quick response and telling parents how the school reacted to the concern.
