BEND, OR (KPTV) -

A man tailgating other drivers on Highway 97 rear-ended one car and then punched the driver of that car when they pulled over to the side of the road, according to police.

Police received a report of a road rage incident south of Bend at 5:41 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said Brandon Kern, 25, of LaPine, was driving his 2015 Chevrolet pickup aggressively northbound on Highway 97 near Milepost 146.

Kern hit the back of a 1999 Honda Civic, according to police, and then charged the driver and punched him several times in the face on the shoulder of the highway.

Police said Kern then left the scene.

The 24-year-old man driving the Honda received minor injuries during the assault, according to troopers.

Kern was located at his place of employment and arrested on charges of fourth-degree assault and menacing. Additional charges are pending the completion of the investigation.

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to call Oregon State Police at 503-375-3555.
