PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A downtown Portland church held its second annual "Pantaloons Rally" Wednesday morning.

Volunteers from Saint Andre Bessette Catholic Church waived signs at commuters, asking them to donate boxers and briefs to needy families.

Officials for the church say they want to provide basic hygiene items to Old Town neighbors and say this holiday weekend is the perfect time for Portlanders to show their generosity.

"Many of our guests ask for that as soon as they come in, hot cup of coffee something to eat, could we have some underwear?” Saint Andre Bessette pastor Father John Patrick Riley said. “We did it last year and had a great response. We're doing it this year and have an even greater response."

Saint Andre Bessette has provided over 115,000 meals and over 5,000 hygiene kits to people throughout the city.
