Two men cited for unlawful shooting of trophy buck in Wheeler County

WHEELER COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Two men were cited for the unlawful shooting of a trophy buck on private property in Wheeler County, according to police.

Oregon State Police, the Wheeler County Sheriff's Office and Warm Springs Department of Natural Resources investigated the shooting of a buck mule deer near Fossil on Oct. 27.

Investigators said Erland Suppah Sr., 69, of Warm Springs, and Oscar Finley, 40, of Wapato, Washington, unlawfully shot the buck on private property without permission during closed season from the highway right-of-way.  

Suppah was cited on charges of unlawful taking of a buck deer during closed season, hunting on enclosed lands of another and hunting in a prohibited area-highway right-of-way.

Finley was cited on charges of unlawful taking of a buck deer during closed season and hunting on enclosed lands of another.

The deer was seized by police as evidence.
