PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Union Gospel Mission served up 1,300 Thanksgiving meals to the homeless and people in need on Thursday.

Volunteers set up a tent downtown outside of the mission and served up hot plates for their annual "Love Your Neighbor" event.

The team cooked up 100 turkeys and prepared snack packs for people to take with them after dinner.

Union Gospel Mission closed down part of the street on Northwest Third Avenue between Burnside and Couch to set up a special area for people to grab a bite to eat out of the rain.

"There are a lot of people in need that maybe would have spent the holiday alone on the streets. A lot of the services are closed on the holidays, and they might not have been able to get a good meal. So this way they can enjoy the holiday and get a great meal," said Stacy Kean, who is with Union Gospel Mission.

As always, the Union Gospel Mission Thanksgiving feast was free for everyone to attend, but they say they're always looking for volunteers and donations.
