Shoppers brave long lines, heavy rain to nab a Black Friday deal

Posted: Updated:

Heavy rains and standing water on some city streets didn't stop thousands of deal seekers, burning the midnight oil, from Black Friday shopping.

No matter who you talk to in a line of die hard shoppers, everyone has a war story on how they survived Black Friday with a great deal.

Many on Thursday night outside the Best Buy in Tualatin were hoping to come away with a win. They stood in the rain and chilly temperatures.

Across I-5 at the Cabela's, Conni McNamee and her family are counting down the hours till the 5 a.m. opening.

“Our families don’t really do a big family deal so this is kind of our tradition," McNamee said.

The group with chairs, sleeping bags, tarps and propane heaters are in it for the long haul. They've been camping out for Black Friday every year since 2013.

McNamee says before the Tualatin store opened, they made the trek down to Eugene Cabela's.

“When this one opened it was like nope, it is closer to home so lets go," McNamee said. "They have some good stuff in the ad for Black Friday, or some really good giveaways.”

So take it from this post Thanksgiving warrior, if you are headed out to hunt a good deal, come prepared.

"As long as you got something to sit or lay in, enough cloths to keep you warm and the proper provisions for what you need to eat or drink you’re pretty much covered," McNamee said.
