PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Thousands of people packed into Pioneer Courthouse Square to watch the 32nd annual tree lighting ceremony in Portland.

During the ceremony, the Northwest Community Gospel Choir got everyone in the holiday spirit by singing some Christmas tunes.

But of course, the centerpiece of the event is the 75-foot Douglas fir tree, right in the middle of the square.

The tree, which was donated by the Stimson Lumber Company, is decked out with 14,000 LED lights that stretch over two and a half miles long.

Mayor Charlie Hales flipped the switch with the help of Santa Claus, kickstarting the holiday season in downtown Portland.
