PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

On Tuesday evening, the University of Oregon announced they fired head football coach Mark Helfrich.

Duck fans said they weren’t surprised to hear the news and it's time to move forward.

David Gresh, who is a Duck fan and attended the university several years ago, said Helfrich hasn’t been able to prove himself.

“He doesn’t have a quarterback pipeline. It’s time for a change,” Gresh said. “And the defense is pretty terrible too.”

Gresh said he’s wanted a change in coaching midway through the season. Especially after the Ducks lost in the Civil War, which ended their winning streak against the Oregon State Beavers.

Gresh said the team and its fans had a taste of going to national championships, but said the team wasn’t able to win.

“We [have to] win it. Now let’s go out and buy ourselves a way to win it,” Gresh said.

He hopes the next coach will come from a big name school with a solid record.
