GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

A 19-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a stranger as she walked to work in Gresham early Wednesday morning, according to police.

The woman told detectives she was walking on the 2800 block of Southeast Powell Valley Road at 4 a.m. when she was approached by a man who engaged her in conversation and then attacked her.

Investigators believe the man was armed with a handgun.

He is described as a white man in his mid-20s, around 5-foot-1-inch tall with a thin build, clean shaven with light eyes and short blond hair. He was wearing dark clothing and black tennis shoes.

The man may have had red-colored "markings" on his hands, according to police.

Anyone who sees the suspect is advised to use caution, as he may be armed.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact Detective Scott Hogan at 503-618-3141.
