Kids at Randall Children's Hospital take a break from treatment to pick out new toy

Posted: Updated:

Dozens of children took a break from receiving treatment at a local hospital so they could pick out a new toy.

Earlier Thursday night, FOX 12 and Les Schwab Tire Centers brought part of the annual Toy Drive over to Randall Children's Hospital.

FOX 12's Elizabeth Dinh and Tony Martinez spent time helping the children and their family members choose something fun for themselves. And in some cases, the siblings of children staying at the hospital got to take a much-needed break – and toy – at the event as well.

"Spreading some holiday cheer … we have some gifts for these young folks, just trying to make their day brighter, which they can use right now," said Joe Rector, area manager for Les Schwab Tire Centers.

Brenda Wood, the grandmother of a patient, told FOX 12, "It's not been so happy lately around where we're at. We've seen a lot of tears and stuff, so it's nice to give him a break from all the drama and stuff he sees at the hospital."

The Toy Drive is still underway, and that means there is still time to help. The toys that are donated will go to children in the metro area who are in need.
