Portlanders gear up for potential snow in metro area

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A drop in temperatures could mean people in the Portland area could be dealing with a mix of rain and snow on Sunday night and Monday.

Weather experts predict the temperatures will fall below 40 degrees on Sunday night and into Monday, which will drop the snow level down to about 1,000 feet.

There are a few things you can do to get ready for the difficult weather.

The first thing is to get your car ready with some snow or studded tires.

Experts at Les Schwab Tire Centers said residents in higher elevations should get their winter tires before the snow hits.

If new tires are not an option, tire chains are the next best thing.

Tire experts would like to remind car owners to practice putting on the chains before the snow falls as a precaution.

Les Schwab employees said if you buy any chains from their stores and do not end up using them, you can return them for a full refund by April 1. They added that the chains cannot be driven on and must be completely dry before you put them back in their packaging.
