PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police are searching for a suspect who fired a shot in a mini-mart during an attempted armed robbery Thursday night.

Officers responded to the Mini Mart Express at 16437 Southeast Powell Boulevard at 7:11 p.m. and spoke with a store employee who said the suspect entered the store armed with a gun and pointed it at the employee while demanding money.

The employee ducked and the suspect fired one shot before running from the store without taking money.

Police say the employee described the suspect as a black man in his 20s or 30s, who was 5 feet 8 inches or 5 feet 9 inches tall with an average build and was wearing dark clothing and a cloth covering his face.

Officers added that the suspect may have left the area in a dark-colored car.

According to police, neither the employee nor a customer in the store at the time of the incident was injured during the shooting.

The Portland Police Bureau is asking anyone with information on this incident to call robbery detectives at 503-823-0403.
