PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Some people living in the Lents neighborhood are getting help with their home thanks to a local organization.

REACH's Community Builders Program is lending a helping hand by repairing homes. The work they're doing helps elderly homeowners remain in their homes.

For the past few days, crews have been working on Jack and Claire Lamme's home. Crews are installing a wheelchair ramp, which will help make it easier for the couple to get in and out of their home.

"It's been out of commission for 15 probably 20 years. It wasn't built correctly the first time and to have community builders build it right is fantastic," said Jack Lamme.

Besides the ramp, the couple had grab bars installed in their bathrooms, and the organization cleaned out their gutters.

A grant from the Portland Housing Bureau helps fund these kinds of projects.
