Oregon firefighters return after helping fight wildfires in North Carolina

LAKE OSWEGO, OR (KPTV) -

Some local firefighters are back home Friday after being sent to North Carolina to help fight wildfires.

About two weeks ago 60 firefighters from Oregon were deployed to help with wildfires. Fifty were sent to fight the Party Rock fire in North Carolina, with a few going to Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee as well.

One of the firefighters sent was Lake Oswego Fire Chief Larry Goff.

Chief Goff spoke to Fox 12 about what it's like being sent out during the holidays to battle fires.

"They were so welcoming. They had volunteers cooking meals for us on Thanksgiving. One lady came up and said 'I want to be your family today because I know you are away from your family.' The community was amazingly accepting of us and welcoming of us," said Chief Goff.

Chief Goff says many of the firefighters in North Carolina had been to Oregon to help battle fires here in the past.
