SILVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

Silverton Police investigate a fatal hit and run that happened Friday morning.

Around 9:35 a.m. near Silverton High School, officers reported a pedestrian was hit and killed by a car. The suspect, Dillon Van Diviner, 22, did not stop and continued to drive, according to investigators.

Silverton Police identified the victim as Bradley Goad, 45, from West Salem. Investigators added, Goad was a construction worker who was working on a driveway project in the 400 block of Grant Street when he was hit.

According to investigators, officers found Van Diviner’s car at the end of Grant Street, where the suspect had abandoned the car and ran into a large field.

Officers found Van Diviner and took him into custody near Hobart Road near North James Street.

Emily Lowery, a neighbor said a situation like this doesn’t happen in her small town.

“We were all terrified, you know, and just watching the whole situation - we just had no idea what to do,” Lowery said.

Investigators said this is an active and on-going criminal investigation.

Van Diviner is at Marion County Jail and is facing charges of murder, felony hit-and-run and DUII.

The family of Goad have set up a GoFundMe account to pay for funeral bills. If you would like to donate, click here.
