Deputies with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office arrested a woman Saturday who attempted to steal a man’s vehicle after threatening that she would shoot him while pretending to hold a gun.

While a deputy responded to a report of trespassing near a residence in the 23000 block of Highway 99E north of Harrisburg around 1:15 p.m., a second person called 911 about being robbed on the same block.

The deputy quickly found the caller, who said he had been unlocking a propane tank when the suspect approached him from behind, grabbed him around the neck and stuck and object in his back simulating a weapon.

The man said the suspect demanded that he hand over the keys to the man’s pickup and threatened to shoot the man if he did not comply.

According to the sheriff’s office, the man said he did not believe the object was a gun and turned and confronted the suspect. The woman fled, running toward the Knife River property on Peoria Road.

More deputies arrived at the scene and began searching for the woman, finding her on the property. After a short chase and struggle, she was arrested without injury.

Deputies identified the woman as 40-year-old Dawn Allison Ferguson of Marysville, Washington, and also determined that she did not have a gun, but rather used her finger or a lighter to attempt to rob the victim.

Ferguson was taken to the Linn County Jail where she faces charges of robbery, criminal trespass and resisting arrest.
