PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland Fire & Rescue responded to a large fire at a homeless camp in north Portland early Monday.

Crews were called the area near North Graham Street and Kerby Avenue around 6:37 a.m.

The fire originated in the Forgotten Realms homeless camp. The flames also damaged a neighboring home.

The owner of the home, Raylynna Peterson, said she saw the flames coming from the camp and rushed to get her family out of the house.

"As I was coming down the stairs, somebody was pounding on my front door," said Peterson. "So I opened my apartment door upstairs and came down and I saw the flames."

Peterson said she grabbed her two daughters, ran out the house, jumped into their car and pulled it out of the driveway. She also tried to extinguish the flames with a garden hose.

Investigators said the cause of the fire was a camp stove that malfunctioned while being lit.
