ASTORIA, OR (KPTV) -

Storm damage is preventing access to the northern portion of Ecola State Park on the Oregon coast.

Ecola Road from Ecola Point to Indian Beach is closed, along with the Indian Beach Trail leading north from the Ecola Point day use area.

Recent heavy rains damaged temporary repairs to the Indian Beach Trail that were made after a series of storms during the last year.

Last month's wet weather caused additional sinking and sliding of the road surface and surrounding area, as well as erosion at the Canyon Creek culvert.

Day use parking at Ecola Point and the Crescent Beach Trail remain open. However, the road closure prevents access to areas including the Clatsop Loop Trail.

The closures will remain in place until repairs are made and conditions are safe, but no timeline was immediately available.

The $5 day use parking feet at Ecola State Park is being temporarily waived until repairs are made.

The Tillamook Head Trail north trailhead near Seaside is open, but visitors should watch for possible trail damage.

Visitors are advised to drive cautiously and watch for slides and slumps on Ecola Road from Cannon Beach to Ecola Point. The road is open with park rangers monitoring conditions.
